Clark County is a county located across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Clark County was the first county of Washington, named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In 2017, Clark County’s population was estimated to be 474,643.
It was created by the provisional government of Oregon Territory on August 20, 1845, and at that time covered the entire present-day state.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 656 square miles, of which, 628 square miles of it is land and 28 square miles of it (4.27%) is water. The population density is 549 per square mile.
